2021 starts off great bringing design and creativity back to the center of the scene. The Milan Design Week in April is also an opportunity for Superstudio to present new and exciting projects in the new venue Superstudio Maxi in via Moncucco, that joins the historic locations in via Forcella and via Tortona with their long-awaited projects "only the best" as always. 3 locations and 3 projects await exhibitors and visitors on a total area of about 22.000 square meters confirming Superstudio as the city’s largest and most innovative private hub. The selections for the participations are open, spaces available with multiple possibilities.

The first of the projects dedicated to female creativity including art, design, architecture and craftsmanship which will reach its peak during the April Design Week with a completely dedicated pavilion, starts in MyOwnGallery.

"Nelle Mani delle Donne" ("In Women's Hands") - a title that says it all - aims to investigate, lightly, carefully, with irony, with foresight, into the world of creativity and begins with two small but significant exhibitions in MyOwnGallery, the Superstudio gallery always open to challenges, trends, new languages. Established artists and architects and young creatives talk about themselves with their work and a talk in the evenings dedicated during the exhibition time...

Breathing fabrics, air-purifying paints, tiles that kill bacteria, recyclable polymers, glass that repairs itself, bikinis that clean the sea, energy-generating tires, fabrics that light up and others that regulate body temperature , “circular” ecoplastics derived from orange or tomato peels… the endless search for new materials with unthinkable performances seems to be the key to every innovation. To the point that, through a direct line with operators, the international Material ConneXion network was born in America in 1997 with its very rich library. Just arrived in Italy it also created a “Materials Village” during the Milan Design Week for the last five editions at Superstudio. Emilio Genovesi, CEO of Materially and, first, of Material ConneXion Italia, tells us about it.

Material ConneXion, with its library of materials, with its presentations first at the Triennale and then at Superstudio, also represented in Italy an important step in the knowledge and enhancement of materials for architecture and design. How did it become part of the Salone and Fuorisalone circuit?
Traditionally, Material ConneXion's mission has always been to suggest new and original material solutions to product manufacturers or architectural designers. Obviously doing this has always led to a close relationship with materials manufacturers, especially those who bring innovative solutions...

The beautiful words that are accompanying the passing of Philippe Daverio, the multifaceted protagonist of the art world who left a mark in Milan, are not rhetorical or circumstantial. Daverio was truly unique, kind, encyclopedic, intelligent, versatile, empathetic, counter-current, helpful, open-minded, generous and all the qualities that we would like human beings to have. Superstudio joins with general regret. He has been with us many times, visiting exhibitions, attending events, holding talks, giving his contribution of knowledge. Another great figure of culture and art that we will miss, but we will not forget.

Beyond the puns - considering also the uncertain times that the whole world is experiencing - the construction site of the new Superstudio MAXI location is going grandly. But above all, it has implemented all the sustainability features to earn the precious Leed certification.

A space of 10.000 square meters, bright, multifunctional, central, well served which will have - at the same time as the opening of Design Week 2021 - the LEED certification (world regulation for the construction of ecological buildings) which recognises the highest eco-sustainable standards for new buildings in key points such as energy and water saving, the reduction of CO2 emissions, the improvement of the ecological quality of interior, materials and resources used. A standard at the highest level - it is natural, we are at MAXI...

Forget the annus horribilis that has haunted us so far and, like the kids coming back to school, consider September the beginning of a new cycle of our life and our work.

Perhaps only this attitude can give us a positive restart, aware that among the many risks that we run every day since we were born, there is also this, the evil Covid-19, and we must live with it. Let us therefore enter the next few months with optimism, hope, awareness, as if it were another year, another decade, another century, another future where nothing will be as it was before and many broken pieces may, perhaps, fall into place...

The Promenade of Porto Cervo for some years has a focal point that has brought a light of originality among the luxurious and somewhat discounted global brands that dot it. The shop of Rossana Orlandi, talent-scout known for her choices of eccentric limited edition objects poised between art design, in summertime does an encore in the Sardinian small harbour of the success of that of Milan, located a short distance from Superstudio. And at the same time she experiments with democratic Design with a new unexpected collaboration...

In a summer that starts slowly, every sign of vitality becomes a symbol of recovery: trade, hospitality, entertainment. So seeing a van unloading new design pieces, lamps and plates, out of the ordinary furniture and accessories, all desirable, becomes an event even in the square with painted walls that houses the gallery on three floors of Rossana Orlandi. She is there, dressed in white, who directs the operations with determination as if she were in the middle of the design week...

An original initiative by Oblong, the gallery recently opened in Forte dei Marmi and Dubai as a bridge between Italy and the Middle East, asked ten of the artists represented, including Flavio Lucchini, to specifically create a unique about "Thirty for Thirty" dimension work, that is also a tangible thought about what Covid-19 left us. Opening Saturday August 8 in Forte dei Marmi.

Numerology is said to be infallible. Three is a golden number, sacred, which encloses the extraordinary powers of energy, creativity, the ability to regenerate and grow. And Three are the sides of the triangle, a geometric figure with ancient meanings, a metaphor for the encounter between Heaven, Earth and Man.From the Mayan civilization to the symbolic universes closest to us, the references recur frequently and often return analogous, even if in disparate places and contexts. Must such ancient wisdom be linked today to a contemporary art exhibition? Perhaps not. Or maybe yes, if we consider the art and the gesture that underlies it, bearers of timeless values...

The tsunami of coronavirus that hit events and in particular the Design Week and all related events, seems to have found help from the Italian government in favor of Made in Italy. We point out here the opportunity to take advantage of straight grants and thus be able to participate more easily in the exhibition projects of Superstudio April 2021 in Milan, which next year will develop on its three locations: Superstudio Più, Superstudio 13 and the brand new Superstudio Maxi.
