The summer appointment with Taomoda Week is becoming  increasingly rich and varied in the magical setting of Taormina. A week that brings the most beautiful and active Sicily under the spotlight of the world.

Taormina adds a day (the 14th of July) and a Sustainability award at the Awards that for years have been given to excellent personalities of enterprise and creativity with a round table entitled “Craftmanship towards the economy of customization” with the participation of Mario Boselli, President of Italia Cina Foundation (on July 15). Besides, there will be a focus on Design with a conference, presentations of the book DESIGN SUPER SHOW by Gisella Borioli (who has already received the Tao Award years ago) and the delivery of the Tao Award for Design to the architect Piero Lissoni who appears among the protagonists of the volume...

The designers Giorgio Vigna are the seventh protagonists of the special project “Designers for Bergamo” created by DimoreDesign. A virtual serial narrative that makes us discover the ancient villas and historic buildings where atmospheres of the past are into dialogue with interventions of the most well-known contemporary designers. In collaboration with DimoreDesign, Superstudio invites its community to participate to these extraordinary meetings...

Putting together passions an competences, Fabio and Lorenza Castelli, formidable father-and-daughter couple, gave birth to MIA (Milano Image Fair), the most important photography and auteur visual, ten years ago at Superstudio in via Tortona. Design is Milano is Design!

Before starting the regeneration labors of that old abandoned factory, that later would become Superstudio Maxi, Luca Gilli had already asked to follow its path with his camera. In silence and in solitude, in the frost or under the scorching sun, in the chaos of the construction site every now and then he appeared and took pictures. This resulted in works of great beauty and sensitivity where space is abstracted and becomes a work of art that will be exhibited during the Inauguration Days at Superstudio Maxi in the personal exhibition  “Passaggi di Stato”, curated by Paola Sosio Contemporary Art.

I didn’t know Luca Gilli, a photographer born in 1965 and who lives in Cavriano (Reggio Emilia). I was struck by his request to photograph Superstudio Maxi when it wasn’t there yet. It was just a building of broken glass and rusty sheet metal, partly abandoned for about 20 years. His idea was to follow its transformation without even having seen the project...

The last-minute news after almost two years of closure to events is the recovery (at last!) of a top appointment on the 15th of July: the Awards Top Legal.

In Weil am Rhein, a German town that limits with Switzerland, the Bouroullec brothershave created for Vitra Designweg a path of miniatures that trace the route to the famous Vitra Campus.

Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, two of the most influential and well-known designers in the world, have designed for Vitra, a Swiss company known for having produced some of the most representative pieces of contemporary desing, Designweg. The public installation consists in a path of 12 spinning glass columns inside enclosing the Vitra Miniatures: a selection of design miniatures created by Vitra Design Museum...

What has changed in the world of design from the 70s/80s to today? What were the imperatives of that time and what are the present ones?
The 70s led us into modernity, into the industrial design wherether search for form and function began to combine with provocation and experimentation. The evolution of society (contestation, politicization, speedup, sexual liberation and divorce) leads to a change that is reflected in life choices and design. The Made in Italy asserts itself...
