THE MICRO-MACROCOSMS OF ANTONELLA QUACCHIA
The schedule dedicated to unconventional female talents continues at MyOwnGallery at Superstudio Più, which hosts, from Nov. 9 to Dec. 8, the exhibition and BookCity event "Antonella Quacchia. Orizzonti sensibili - Naviganti di microcosmi. L’estetica dell’emozione," curated by Fortunato D'Amico, under the Patronage of the City of Milan.
Antonella Quacchia's life seems to come straight out of a novel, characterized by a difficult childhood, a prestigious career at CERN and the ONU at the ILO, and incessant traveling, and all this is reflected in her art in a duality present on many levels, whether it is rationality or fantasy, urges from within or without, research on the micro and the macro, the real world and the spiritual.
On display are more than 40 works with which the artist gives us an emotional journey, an experience that prompts us to reflect on the beauty and complexity of the world around us, through the recurring themes of his poetics, namely his origins, nature, environmental sustainability, the emotional sphere, diversity and minorities. Canvases and panels made with different techniques and materials, and bright, vivid colors, convey emotions, feelings and reflections, in a path divided into distinct but interconnected series, Our Planet, Floating Forms, I Love Life, up to the very recent resin works Serendipity.
A central element in Antonella's work is her visceral love for the sea. Her "almost liquid" works, especially her new resin works (made in collaboration with Gobbetto), explore the tragic theme of plastic poisoning our oceans, droughts, and calamities that no longer have anything natural about them. At a time when we are constantly bombarded by media, social media, and political debates, we have become almost anesthetized to the climate emergency that has become almost "normalized." Antonella's art is a rallying cry for us to preserve the beauty of our land, our history, our natural roots. It reminds us that we must do our part to protect the planet from devastating climate change, an urgent call to action to preserve the world for future generations.
The bilingual monograph "Antonella Quacchia. Orizzonti sensibili / Sensitive horizons" edited by Fortunato D'Amico, published by Editoriale Giorgio Mondadori with texts by Chiara Canali, Fortunato D'Amico, Chiara Ferella Falda, and Matteo Galbiati. The volume will be presented on Wednesday, November 15 at 6 p.m. on the occasion of BookCity 2023 with a talk entitled "The metamorphosis of the horizon in the art of Antonella Quacchia" that will involve the artist, the curator and the authors of the critical texts.
