THE BLOOMING UNIVERSE OF KEN SCOTT

Posted by: Giorgio Re

The volume, born thanks to the collaboration of the Ken Scott Foundation and with the support of Mantero Seta - which holds the archive and is the owner of the brand since 2019 - and Gucci, is perhaps othe first truly exhaustive monograph on the artist, narrated by 600 illustrations and sketches of those years, from “ad hoc” shots by Guido Taroni as well as from images of the greatest international photographers. As a guide in this floral ocean - which, however, also includes prairies and forests, seabeds with their flora and fauna, graphics and abstractions, the world of sport - there are the words of authors who have frequented and known him and by eminent contemporary fashion writers: Shahidha Bari, Federico Chiara, Pierre Léonforte, Renata Molho, Peter Smithers, Isa Tutino Vercelloni, Velasco Vitali.

A revolutionary, eclectic artist in technicolor: "Ken Scott used psychedelic colors even before we knew what psychedelia was", wrote illustrator Joe Eula in "Time" in 1969. He made his flowers, large and lively, bright and cheerful, a “sine qua non conditio” in the clothing and home collections. He knew what art is and how to apply it in an entire kaleidoscope of creative and productive fields. He anticipated unisex and the fashion shows between happenings and divertissements. He convinced and fascinated, among other style icons, Jacqueline Kennedy, Marisa Berenson, Monica Vitti, Barbra Streisand, Brigitte Bardot. His houses and gardens in Milan, Cuernavaca and Èze on the French Riviera were open to parties and social events, where the international jet set met. Ken Scott's lesson conquered the world and is still valid today. Precisely because he has shown that he knew how to "not make flowers wither".
