Dreams, desires, status symbols. But above all, these are objects that have shaped the history of design and lifestyle, crossing decades without losing an ounce of their allure. They are timeless icons capable of defining an entire space on their own, effortlessly finding their place in creative homes, boutique hotels, film sets and Instagram feeds with the same natural ease with which, more than half a century ago, they revolutionized the very idea of living. And now, one after another, they are arriving at Superstudio Più for SOMO (short for Solo Modernariato).
Following the success of previous editions held near Bergamo in the industrial spaces of Spazio Fase, the fair lands in Milan this year, choosing one of the city’s most symbolic venues for contemporary design: Superstudio Più. The move marks both a decisive leap in scale and a clear statement of intent to place the history of design back at the center of contemporary conversation at a moment when vintage has become the new luxury and 20th-century objects continue to shape fashion, art and lifestyle.
With this spirit, the upcoming edition promises to be far more than a simple trade fair. Instead, it presents itself as a vast treasure hunt devoted to modernist furniture and 20th-century design. More than 70 carefully selected exhibitors will showcase original pieces, vintage rarities, collectible furnishings, posters, lighting, accessories and furniture that still define contemporary taste today. Visitors will wander through stands that trace eras, aesthetics and cultural movements: from Bauhaus to Italy’s radical design experiments, from Scandinavian minimalism to the brightly colored plastics of the 1960s and 1970s, all the way to the bold creative energy of the 1980s. Expect to encounter the Wassily B3 Chair, Lips Vago bookcases, Kartell furnishings, sculptural lamps, manifesto seating and impossible-to-ignore objects that for once may actually be within reach. Because in an age dominated by fast consumption and disposable interiors, investing in modernist design means choosing objects built to last: pieces crafted with a level of artisanal quality that is becoming increasingly rare and destined, in many cases, to grow not only in monetary value but also in cultural significance.
