Irreverent, visionary, ironic, and relentlessly unconventional, Franco Moschino was the enfant terrible of Italian fashion—a multifaceted genius who dismantled the conventions of the fashion system with a mischievous smile. Few remembered the 30th anniversary of his passing, but the multidisciplinary exhibition at MyOwnGallery is far from a nostalgic endeavor. Instead, it celebrates his vision, which was ahead of its time.
Revolutionary designer, provocative advertiser, nonconformist painter, rebellious philosopher, pacifist, and a forerunner of the eco-friendly movement, Moschino built one of the world's most innovative brands in just ten years, leaving a legacy that continues to inspire new generations of creatives.
The exhibition curated by Pier Paolo Pitacco and Giuseppe Mastromatteo, “Franco Moschino. The Visionary Genius”, hosted at MyOwnGallery with the sponsorship of the Municipality of Milan, celebrates the revolution, contemporaneity, and creative vitality of Franco. The exhibition, strongly desired and produced by the Art Directors Club Italiano, also awarded Moschino the prestigious "Hall of Legends 2024" prize.
The exhibition offers an immersive experience into Moschino's imaginative universe through iconic photographs by Stefano Pandini—many of which were taken in the legendary studios of Superstudio13—that capture the designer’s ironic and provocative vision, a term he himself disliked. Giant prints and fine art pieces recount the story of a creative mind who managed to blend fashion, art, and communication, simultaneously working within and challenging the fashion system in a creative process that only appeared contradictory. The exhibition also features selected projects from an international contest involving alumni of Istituto Marangoni, reinterpreting Moschino's nonconformist essence through videos, artistic concepts, outfits, accessories, and daring graphic designs. Moreover, the exhibition extends to the upper floor of the gallery, showcasing films and video interviews with significant figures of 1980s and 1990s pop culture, including philosopher Gianni Mereghetti, musician Manuel Agnelli, former Vogue Italia art director Luca Stoppini, and model Violeta Sanchez. The walls are adorned with precious memorabilia from Stefano Pandini's private collection.
For collectors and enthusiasts, a limited-edition photo book, "Iconoclasta", with 100 signed copies by Pandini, and certified fine art photographs are available for purchase. All proceeds will be entirely donated to the Hospice of Abbiategrasso, supported by the Moschino Foundation, in aid of terminally ill patients.
