A human and professional story as exciting as a novel. It is that of Gisella Borioli Lucchini, journalist, creative, co-founder and president of Superstudio group. Her autobiography begins at the end of World War II and comes to the present day, touching the strings of feelings and commitment.
I did not think it would become a real book, in the vein of the autobiographies that are so fashionable in these times of driven individualism, when I began to tell my three-year-old granddaughter Luna the story of her grandparents and her roots, which she would have had little way of knowing since she was living abroad as a little girl with her parents and Viola and Flavio, sister and brother who would come.
In the long years since that 2009 when I began to recover the old family stories that even I did not know, I would occasionally open the computer and “throw down” thoughts and words that filled in the gaps of illuminated forgotten moments.
As time went by, my life was enriched by experiences that led me to be who I am, thanks to fortunate encounters and intellectual and professional adventures that I never even imagined I could face when I was a shy and without means little girl who at all costs “wanted to be happy.”
I have straddled a spontaneous creativity that came naturally to me, journalism, fashion, design, photography, publishing, theater, art, television, travel to distant countries that opened other horizons for me, leaving a small trace in my city that even earned me an Ambrogino d'Oro in 2014 and countless other awards.
I took advantage of Great Teachers who taught me a lot, sometimes unbeknownst to them and in a short time. I have met famous people up close, actors, artists, designers, architects, intellectuals, who have engaged me. I have had by my side boys and girls debuting in the profession who have also, they say, become important because of what they learned with me.
I have faced many disappointments and betrayals. Successes yes, but not without some slips. These have always been followed by an improvement in my situation, which is why I do not bear a grudge against my antagonists even if they have hurt me.
From my beginnings as a child without great prospects to my youth that found in my husband Flavio Lucchini the ideal companion, to my maturity as an entrepreneur in the creative world open to every stimulus and challenge, I have translated my life into a novel. Which, knowing how to tell them, are all lives.
“Gisella. I wanted to be happy” is a ride through the years starting in 1940, the end of the war, the changing society, the changing values, the growing desires, the ever-higher goals. All the way to the great adventure of Superstudio, in which I had family, students, and collaborator-friends close by and which today gathers and amplifies all my passions, under the sign of beauty and innovation. If there is one constant in all this, it is love: for people, for work, for young people. Everything else is life.
