SuperCity is not simply an exhibition, but a place to be crossed like a suspended city where design, art and imagination coexist in balance. The installation does not merely host works or products: it builds a narrative landscape made of relationships, paths and graphic signs through which the visitor moves freely, like inside a miniature urban dimension.
The idea behind the project is an essential, light, almost immaterial setup. Everything is reduced to a minimum to leave room for perception and imagination. In this immersive atmosphere, a continuous dialogue between art and design takes shape, running throughout the venue and reflecting the most authentic dynamics of the contemporary city: chance encounters, overlaps, stratifications of languages, functions and different visions.
Within The City, the exhibition curated by Giulio Cappellini, the lines drawn on the floor become the true scenography of the project. They design streets, crossings, houses, a swimming pool, a gym and the agorà signed by Abet Laminati, transforming the space into a map to be explored. Here, design ceases to be an isolated object and becomes part of a broader, living, urban ecosystem. Each piece interacts with what surrounds it, as happens in the neighbourhoods of a real city.
This narrative also includes exhibitions such as Portraits – Photography | Design and When Design Becomes Art, which further expand the relationship between design and artistic dimension. The first builds an intimate and visual narrative through the photographs of Walter Gumiero, capable of restoring great design classics with an almost human presence, made of detail, character and memory. The second explores the subtle boundary between function and art, transforming everyday materials and objects into installations of strong emotional impact.
Crossing the venue is also the Art Boulevard by Living Divani, conceived as a slow, contemplative urban promenade. The brand’s iconic furniture accompanies visitors along a path punctuated by the monumental sculptures of Flavio Lucchini and Maria Cristina Carlini, creating moments of encounter between matter, form and space.
Like every contemporary city, SuperCity also embraces a more technological and design-driven component. The Honda workshop, based on Dream Driven Design Thinking (DDD) developed by Honda R&D, involves students and faculty in a process of collective imagination, turning the project into an open tool for exchange and shared vision.
Completing this narrative ecosystem is Vimar with “230 Volt-i”, designed by Giulio Iacchetti. The project reinterprets the three-module plate of the Vimar Plana series, a typically neutral element, transforming it into a collection of expressive faces thanks to the work of 37 international designers and 3D printing. The domestic object becomes a contemporary mask, where the controls take on an identity-bearing role. Installed as an immersive gallery, the installation invites visitors to interact and reshape the faces.
In parallel, the reinterpretation of the electric Spiaggina by Garage Italia, included in the curatorial project by Giulio Cappellini, translates the theme of transformation into the automotive realm. The car combines craftsmanship and a racing-inspired language through its Wimbledon White livery with a red central stripe and blue accents, together with wicker interiors by Bonacina 1889 and nautical mats by Italdek. The Spiaggina thus becomes a narrative object reflecting the layered spirit of the installation.
SuperCity thus becomes far more than an exhibition: it is a sensitive reflection on the relationship between design, art, space and representation. By reducing the installation to its zero degree, the project reveals what often goes unnoticed in real cities: the invisible connections between people, objects, images and movements. An imagined city, yet surprisingly close to the way we live.
