WHAT DO WE WANT? BOOK PRIDE ANSWERS

Posted by: Federica Clari

Literature has become a motive for in-depth analysis, dialogue and comparison, and it does so starting with the theme 'What we want' of the VIII edition of Book Pride, the literary event promoted by ADEI - Associazione Degli Editori Indipendenti (Association of Independent Publishers), in collaboration with the Municipality of Milan and the Patronage of the Lombardy Region, which with 200 publishing brands, over 1. 000 square metres of books and 550 guests from Italy and around the world and a special curator and author, basketball superstar Gigi Datome, confirmed it as an important cultural venue where, through writing, but not only, major issues of social and political interest are explored.

The success of the VIII edition of Book Pride, in the venues of Superstudio Maxi, confirms the real desire for confrontation on major social issues - from work to environment, from family to school, from current news to sex, money and inclusivity.
"The festival of independent publishing is back in Milan. A unique opportunity for readers to meet a diverse and plural world and many books, but also to represent an idea of culture that is not mainstream. Today more than ever we aim to represent difference, especially in cultural production. And Book Pride is, as always, also an opportunity to underline how it is more necessary than ever to promote books and reading, at a time when many media spaces seem to be closing and important support measures are being lost", says ADEI President Andrea Palombi.
Isabella Ferretti, President of Book Pride, and curators Laura Pezzino and Marco Amerighi strongly supported the event's focus on desires and hopes but also disappointments, critical consciousness, and signs of change that permeate our world at every level, and they achieved this starting from the event's theme WHAT DO WE WANT.
Talks, previews, debates on what will be the future of publishing, a rich programme of workshops, lectio magistralis for students and all those who are interested in getting a view of the behind-the-scenes world of books.
A great emphasis was reserved for schools and new generations of readers with Book Young, for young readers from 6 to 13 years old, Book Ya, for high school students, and to the Book Academy, a project realised in cooperation with University Masters and the main Italian writing schools.International guests but also debut authors found in the event a vibrant stage and a well prepared audience.
An event that is now an annually awaited and enthusiastically welcomed by Milan.
