THE POP CULTURE BOOM

Posted by: Sofia Alberti

The countdown has begun! On June 8th and 9th, Superstudio Più will raise the curtain on the 3rd edition of the Best Movie Comics and Games. The pop culture festival organized by Best Movie, the reference magazine for cinema and entertainment published by Duesse Communication, offers an entire weekend of fun with cinema, comics, action figures, cosplay, games, and much more.

The wait is almost over, and the Best Movie Comics and Games is ready to return to its usual venue at Via Tortona 27. The excitement is palpable. In just three years, this fair has become the hub of pop culture, an oasis of creativity and fun where lovers of comics, cinema, TV series, and video games come together to share their passions and embark on a timeless adventure. "From the 3,500 participants of the first edition to the 12,000 expected this year," says an enthusiastic Giorgio Viaro, the event's artistic director, "the fair is growing exponentially, witnessing the impressive expansion of the pop world."
But what makes manga, anime, and comics so irresistible? Their universal storytelling and captivating animations that make us reflect on everyday themes dear to us. They are not just compelling stories and well-developed characters; they are true works of art that tackle deep and complex themes. Take, for example, Michele Rech, better known as Zerocalcare, who is participating in this year's Best Movie Comics and Games with a replica of the iconic Armadillo room. Zerocalcare embodies a postmodern phenomenon, reworking the youth pop subculture of the '90s into a powerful unifying element.
An Italian touch also characterizes the poster for this 3rd edition, signed by Leo Ortolani, a comic artist from Pisa born in 1967, creator of the famous Rat-man. "With this poster, I wanted to pay homage to Milan and the iconic characters of pop culture that we love so much," explains Ortolani. The image, an explosion of creativity, blends Milanese symbols with popular elements, creating a bridge between the urban context and the fantastic imagination. Against the backdrop of the city, figures like Rat-man and Spider-Man weave a web of connections that symbolize the sense of community and celebrate creativity.
Pop culture, born in the mid-20th century with the advent of cinema, comics, and popular music, reflects the social and cultural changes of our time. And Ortolani's poster is a shining example: it celebrates and unites different generations, fully showcasing the power of this subculture in creating connections between people.
