PROFESSION: PHOTOGRAPHER

Milano celebrates its illustrious citizen. The prestigious context of Palazzo Reale hosts the most ambitious exhibition ever in Italy, fully dedicated to Oliviero Toscani, to whom it pays tribute on the occasion of his 80 years of life and career, he kicked off precisely thanks to the support by Flavio Lucchini, turning his production into art beyond photography.

The exhibition, open to the public until September 25th, offers across the rooms of Palazzo Reale 800 pictures he has taken from the 1960s to the present mounted through no spikes nor frames, but pasted on the walls like street posters, presenting the iconic traits of his work through less known pictures, telling the story of an artist taking a genial and challenging look who has influenced countless generations of costumes over the years, and questioned the world about various topics. An artist discovered by Flavio Lucchini when he was still a photography student in a prestigious school in Switzerland, he supported and encouraged over the years until his pics went beyond fashion and became art expressions of human valuues. With Oliviero Toscani at his side, Lucchini has created all his most critical editorial projects, including the Superstudio 13, the name of which comes from the number of studios available to him at that time and is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. The Palazzo Reale exhibition includes images and advertisements that made Toscani known all around the world: the renowned manifesto "JesusJeans "Chi mi ama mi segua" (Donna Jordan was the model and the photo shoot was a gesture showing Toscani's boldness and desecration, like so many of his works, a bold mix of sacred and profane), "Bacio tra prete e suora" (1992),"Tree CuoriWhite/Black/Yellow"" (1996), "No-Anorexiaā€¯ (2007). On display dozens of portraits of people who "have changed the world", like Mick Jagger, Lou Reed, Federico Fellini, and other outstanding cultural icons from the 70s onward, showcasing the outrageous career of an artist and man who developed a radical and provocative view on the world. A great testimony to his life and burning topics.
