IN SEARCH OF LOST CLOTHES

Posted by: Alberto Zanoletti

The audience was mostly young, between 20 and 30 years old, with few over that age, and a lady with a very high-end Gucci bag, leaving, confided to her husband: “It would have been better if we had gone to the exhibition dedicated to Armani Privé.” The reasons, however, of those who were shopping were very diverse. Mayara, a beautiful twenty-year-old model, says she dresses exclusively vintage because she finds it more elegant. The strictly vegan couple, Filippo, 31 years old, a teacher of child neuropsychomotricity, and Giulia, 32 years old, who works in marketing, have been dressing exclusively vintage for 15 years, a choice against waste and pollution and, Giulia adds: “Contemporary designer fashion is all the same and the prices are now absurd.” Elena, 27 years old, works at Ratti. In her bag she already has a jacket in shaved astrakhan.
Inevitable was the topic of real fur, now worn by girls without any animal guilt: “I bought it because it looks like my grandmother’s. And it only costs 31 euros.” Another element that determines vintage’s success is precisely the one linked to memory, to family-related memories. More out of curiosity than passion, Abdu, Amed, and Younes, all in their twenties, came to the Fair Priced Vintage Market wearing the typical uniform of their age: oversized sweatshirt, trousers, and jacket. They were mainly interested in the stand with camouflage jackets and trousers. However, one of them was wearing a Polo Ralph Lauren T-shirt, for me a brand linked to a very classic world. Amed, however, firmly replied that it is a brand without age and does not define at all who wears it. In a word: Vintage is for everyone.
