FIRST TIME FOR TV BOY
The street-artist TvBoy (alias Salvatore Benintende) presents an exhibition at Mudec that traces his artistic journey from the streets to the museums with icons of media personalities and even former enemies who ended up as friends. As Mudec and many publications did, we are pleased to present his exhibition. Despite the enthusiasm, we owe it to our readers to make it clear that this is not his first show: his "first time" in an art-space was in 2010 at the Art Point at Superstudio Più with Mash Up. After 11 years, it was good to see him again in via Tortona.
As a result of launching the My Own Gallery concept gallery at the entrance of Superstudio Più, the ArtBox display case in Via Tortona, and the ArtPoint event hall for the first time, Superstudio Più opened its doors in 2006 to semi-unknown artists, original artistic languages, and creative fusions of all kinds, while offering free entry to creative talents who share Superstudio's transversal vision. Our goal was to legitimize street-artists as a category, differentiating real talents from inauthentic painters, and promoting the former in the right places. Their lives would no longer revolve around illegality, processes, and penalties, but increasing awareness of beauty, messages, and the impact they made with their art. Initially, Art-Kitchen was of substantial assistance, as it gathered the most active and open-minded street-artists from around the city. During the time that Moratti's management ran Milan's municipality, they began allocating public walls for my Wall of Fame project that I curated. Following the American artists Daze and Sharp and Bros, we invited Salvatore/Tv Boy to bring his first exhibition Mash Up into our spaces, as he stated on his site:
“Mash Up. Personal exhibition at Superstudio Piú Milano, Via Tortona 27.
Starting from May to September 2010 I presented at Superstudio in Milan a big personal exhibition called Mash Up. It tooks me a whole year to prepare all the pieces of the show which were almost 50 new artworks divided between big sized canvases, medium size artworks on paper, and a huge sculpture and a enormous spraypainted Pvc on the outside. The concept behind the exhibition was to create a “Mash-up” of images from contemporary culture. The Location SuperstudioPiú, Via Tortona 27, Milan (www.superstudiogroup.com) is a big an warehouse space in which take place every year very important meetings in the fields of Art, Fashion and Design such the Milan Furniture Fair, the Fashion Fair and Contemporary Art Fair. Thanks to the big effort of my colleagues at Art Kitchen. More than a thousand visitors came to the opening…”
The Mudec exhibition displays the new-born Tv Boy in 70 artworks with different subjects (kisses, power, arts, heroes). It will be opened until 9/01/2022.
