DESIGN IS MIRRORED BY ART AT THE FLA MUSEUM

Posted by: Chiara Ferella Falda

A renowned brand and artist along with a young sculptor traverse parallel paths, offering a diverse range of new aesthetic expressions. On one side are the iconic pieces by Cappellini, thanks to the work of Giulio Cappellini who has enlisted the collaboration of the world's most famous designers. On the other side are the artworks of Flavio Lucchini, which engage in dialogue with design through multiple resonances. And furthermore, it's the first time for Sebastiano Pelli at the Milan Design Week, an artist and designer yet to be discovered.

At the end of the "thinking different" path of the Superdesign Show, the fashion "business museum" of the Superstudio, the FLA FlavioLucchiniArt Museum welcomes us with a renewed exhibition in the Atelier space, where post-industrial architecture, the beauty of natural light, and three different exhibitions immerse us in a suspended world where fashion is sublimated and the boundary between art and design becomes increasingly intangible. "Fashion in another way," as narrated in the documentary about Lucchini, directed by Giovanni Gastel in collaboration with Oliviero Toscani, looping on the large screen of the Museum.
From black-and-white contrasts and optical games to the extraordinarily beautiful Gold works, to the "marshmallow" colored gypsum sculptures, each element offers us only a taste of the artist's incredible production. It is the underground section of the museum, almost hidden and secret, that astonishes with the grandeur and number of exhibited works, exactly 634. 18 rooms follow one another, each with a different theme and type of works, skillfully contaminated by the iconic furnishings of Cappellini: Totem, Toys, Dress Memory, Haute Couture, Burqa, Gold, Hair, Flowers, Ghost, Dress Paintings, SkyScrapers, Icons, BlackCode, Circus… But there is still a surprise and novelty, in The Lab space, dedicated to hosting emerging artists, in a logic of scouting always pursued by Lucchini, since the days when he, a great figure in fashion, launched young talents through his fashion magazines who would become tomorrow's stars (designers, photographers, journalists, art directors...). The Lab hosts the installation "Bring me a Higher Love" by the young artist and designer Sebastiano Pelli, sculptures and material paintings where the glimmers of gold (actually brass macerated with waste materials such as orange peels and coffee) meet the water element contained in a large central sculpture in burnished iron and brass. In a historical moment of great disorientation, it is an almost ancestral reflection on the need for light and purity that we all have, which fits well with the sacredness of Lucchini's totemic sculptures.
