A competition of generosity, art, design, and beauty. The grand sculptures from the Slide Art collection for those who can dream big. In memory of an enlightened entrepreneur and his love for design and art. In support of the idea of making the cultural landmarks of Milan accessible to everyone. This event, strongly desired and organized by Superstudio, is born from the desire of Marco Colonna Romano to honor his father, Giò Colonna Romano, founder of Slide, who recently passed away, with a public tribute to the collection of works commissioned by him over the years. Supported by a group of friends who are art enthusiasts and identified in the non-profit association MuseoCity, with its inclusive cultural projects, the ultimate recipient of the funds raised.
From January 24 to 30, Designer's Dream, an exhibition culminating in a pro bono auction by Christie's on the evening of the 30th, makes available to everyone sixteen extraordinary sculptures created by prominent names in design. These sculptures can enhance representative spaces, hospitable venues, and perhaps the beautiful homes of Milanese residents. One could be for you, dear reader.
The vocation of Superstudio to be attentive and active in social matters (it recently added the classification of "Benefit Company" to its profile) has strengthened over the years through various initiatives always close to the needs and desires of people facing difficulties of every kind. This time, we wanted to address cultural benefits, which fill the heart and are no less important than those that satisfy primary needs.
Designer's Dream is an initiative made possible by the donation of the entire collection of original sculptures from Slide Art to remember Giò Colonna Romano, founder of the design company Slide and a great art lover, recently deceased. In collaboration with the auction house Christie's for a commission-free benefit auction, and Superstudio as curator and organizer, along with other friends, whom we thank here: Cento per Cento Company for graphics, Conseil for communication, Elena Pardini for the press office, New Team and Tenute Venturini Foschi for refreshments, and all volunteer collaborators.
Commissioned one by one by Giò Colonna Romano, a brilliant and generous friend, the works for sale and on display are important sculptures with a significant impact, speaking a contemporary, poetic, and visionary language. They bear the signature of famous architects or renowned international artists (from Alessandro Mendini to Alessandro Guerriero, Denis Santachiara, Bruto Pomodoro, Fabio Rotella, Flavio Lucchini, Eun Sun Park, and others). These are authenticated "artist proofs," created using industrial/manual techniques and perfectly restored for sale to knowledgeable and passionate individuals. They will fit well in the lobby of a welcoming hotel, in an architectural studio, a prestigious showroom, a creative agency, the headquarters of a bank or insurance company, the spacious areas of modern universities, or any room large enough to enhance them, and perhaps even at the entrance of a beautiful home.
MuseoCity, the association that operates in the field of culture, promoting over 100 museums and archives in Milan, will be the beneficiary of the entire proceeds from sales for the realization of artistic, cultural, and socially-oriented projects.
The auction bases have been kept incredibly attractive because the organizers' desire is for all the sculptures to easily embark on their journey into the world, carrying the message of love for art and design from the collector who was their publisher. The proceeds will help a broader dissemination of the beauty and culture heritage that Milan possesses.
The sculptures will be on display at Superstudio Più from January 24 to 30 every weekday afternoon from 2:30 to 6 or by appointment. The auction will be on the 30th at 6, in the presence of some authors.
