In 70 years of activity and countless awards Caimi Brevetti it is well known for its projection toward innovation. Today the historical headquarter in Nova Milanese hosts the brand new multi-service space and above everything the structure that represents the core of the development of the new Snowsound project: the Caimi Open Labs. Franco and Giorgio Caimi are telling us more about it.

When and how did the Snowsound project take life?
Well, the Snowsound project was born during the terrible crisis that happened in 2009, we had to study the market accurately in order to understand how we could guarantee a new expansion to our company. After taking the decision to step into the acoustic management product we could develop internally some ideas that led to new patents (in Italian: "Brevetti") that were at the base of the whole new production. The new, advanced discoveries - Giorgio could even define a new physics principle! - led us to a massive investment in the Open Labs.

How advanced?
Well, quite advanced: in the beginning we thought we had to rely on external consultants, labs and Universities, but later on it was us to supply them with new data and information, to the point that they could not understand anymore how we could do it! Today our knowledge even incorporates highly reserved military tech and this level of performance in Europe has been reached by us and by the European Space Agency... but we had to test for them a few items that later went sent into space.
We went so far and in such a short time that today our Labs represent the new international standard for the study of sound: therefore we decided to make them available for free to no-profit entities such as medical research, foundations, universities and so on. For us, the social aspect is important.

How do you match this new activity with your historical production?
Our Snowsound patents could find immediate applications in the world of fabrics and subsequently allow us to apply a very technical product to more "fashionable" products such as a sofa, a chair, a pouf or a sound absorbing panel that looks like anything but a sound absorbing panel!

You recently celebrated 70 years of activity, getting countless prizes and awards, what does the future hold for Caimi Brevetti?
We are now absorbing the third generation of Caimi within the company that remains, despite the size, a family company: we are four brothers and we all have sons and daughters that are now ready to join the activity. Some of them are already part of the structure with very good results, it seems that we were able to pass over the curiosity and the values that are peculiar to our family... so us "boys" can now focus on innovation!
