The festival – conceived by the Education and Outreach section of the National Quantum Science and Technology Institute (NQSTI) and coordinated by Professor Elisabetta Paladino – celebrates the UNESCO International Year of Quantum Science and Technology 2025 with a format that brings art and science closer without ever making them didactic. The selection of young talents is made by a jury that brings together different worlds: artist Andrea Crespi, scientist Amalia Ercoli Finzi with her daughter Elvina, Lavinia Farnese (Digital Director of Cosmopolitan and Marie Claire), actress and cultural entrepreneur Cristiana Capotondi, along with physicists Maurizio Dabbicco and Elisabetta Paladino.
Alongside the students' works (SEE HERE), the original artworks of the four established artists also take center stage, each with a very personal vision of the "quantum." Robin Baumgarten presents an immersive multisensory installation made of thousands of LEDs, sound, and tactile interaction; concepts of the wave function, such as superposition, interference, measurement, and collapse can be experienced through emotions. Carlo Bernardini’s sculpture consists of two autonomous units, one in visible stainless steel by day, the other in optical fiber visible by night, symbolizing the dualism between space and time. Max Papeschi reinterprets the famous Schrödinger’s cat paradox in a pop and ironic key, turning it into a small commercial short-circuit. One out of two boxes is empty, making every purchase a quantum measurement: until you open it, the object both exists and does not exist. Fabio Weik uses the aesthetics of coin-operated claw machines from game arcades, to confront the public with disturbing scenarios: fresh meat, rubble, landscapes devastated by war. Every attempt to "grab" an object becomes an act of reflection and interaction.
Quant’ARTE does not aim to explain physics: it wants to make it felt. It is an invitation to explore the invisible, to be amazed by what we cannot see but can imagine.
