A powerful theme has been chosen for the 2024 edition of the Superdesign Show: THINKING DIFFERENT - everything, everywhere, everyone, which involves all participants but which has always represented the creative vision of Gisella Borioli and Giulio Cappellini, both creative revolutionaries in the world of publishing, entrepreneurship and design.
With 11 nations present, the involvement of 3 continents with a strengthened presence of Asian creativity, the participation of more than 80 companies and the presentation of almost 40 cutting-edge projects, Superdesign Show is once again this year an unmissable meeting point for designers, companies and enthusiasts, ready to explore the latest trends and future visions of design.
"The complexity of contemporary life," explains Gisella Borioli, impeccable host, "is reflected in collective choices, between homologation and diversity. This year we explored the second path, inviting designers, artists, companies to a THINKING DIFFERENT in many aspects. An invitation that was taken up and embraced by almost all the participants, in their intentions, in the presentations, in the products themselves, in the drive towards the use of the latest technologies". Art director Giulio Cappellini adds, "quality and internationality have always characterized the Superdesign Show installations. It does not matter if they are proposed by big brands with acclaimed designers or by small realities with still little-known designers: the research always continues with an eye on the most interesting geographical areas for contemporary design. Superdesign Show is a kaleidoscope of bold, thought-out and topical proposals that are good for the mind and the heart, and an agora where different thoughts are confronted".
Like every year, the main theme of the event encompasses several exhibition hats: the Asian Horizon with impressive companies and collectives: Tokyo Company, George P. Johnson Japan/Yutaka, meliordesign. The immersive Oriental experience will be amplified with the creation of a new Vietnam Pavilion in bamboo, the relaxation area of Japan Tobacco inc. and the tea room of Teaste it. The expected and welcome returns of TOKYO CREATIVE SALON, Kawashima Selkon Textiles, FORUM8, Slow Hand Design Thailand by DITP, and the Chinese Grado Design and LEXUS, with two disorienting installations. Three Virtual Points created by the Superstudio Digital division, where holograms, metaverse, avatars, robotics and artificial intelligence become the absolute protagonists. Superstudio's digital soul is also behind SURTECO and HABITS DESIGN and PIXOM. Always a place for the discovery of new talents, also this year there is room for the different vision of Generation Z: the projects of the Swedish students of Jönköping University and the furnishings of the students of Istituto Marangoni Milano-The School of Design are on stage.
Not a novelty but a due highlight will be given to companies presenting Earth-friendly projects: The Good Plastic Company with StudioXAG, PNA-Pietra Naturale Autentica, LAPILLI with FoodDesignStories, NichelcromLab with artist Michele D'Agostino's installation. The Materially collective with its eco-materials is also back. Thinking of the home today as a tailor-made oasis, this is Home Now with its featured designers: MURALS WALLCOVERINGS, SLOWLI, next125 kitchens, furniture by Karbony, CNA, Mirage, NOBI and Geberit.
The capsule collection of children's furniture by designer Mara Bragagnolo tackles the theme of “special needs” children's asking for silence and tranquility and invites the designers of the future to deal more assiduously with the functional and beautiful needs of all 'diversities'.
Art is still the protagonist in the Superstudio spaces: artist Rafael Lanfranco celebrates his origins with his little Peruji, transporting Peruvian archetypes into the modernity of Pop Art. Ten Czech artists create a groupage of Designblok Cosmos glass objects. A light installation by designer Kevin Chu for Creation SUGO with creative furniture by Andrea Cingoli for Concepticon will bring art in the Asia section. Graphic artist Daniele Cima with his "Why not?" - 42 different graphic versions translated into all the languages of the world - challenges the audience to dare the impossible.
Last but not least at the FLA FlavioLucchiniArt Museum, the exhibition of works from different periods by Flavio Lucchini presents the thousand expressive possibilities of black and white, while in the permanent museum exhibition Cappellini's most iconic objects highlight the relationship between art and design.
