CREATIVE COLLECTIVE. A WELL-SYNCRONIZED ORCHESTRA

Numerous collectives of artists and designers that are showcased at Superdesign Show this year. Each with their own vision of life and happiness, they present fun, colorful projects, that blend craftmanship with innovation, always standing out for their attention at sustainability and the reuse of materials. Wheter it’s for their cutting-edge research, for the successful mix between Western and Eastern elements or just for the unusual and lively shapes, these projects share the ability to capture attention.

DITP & THACCA. CREATIVITY AND COLORS FROM THE LAND OF SMILE
In the large space dedicated to Thailand, visitors enter a scenario of light colors, dunes, and clouds that spark the imagination. Surrounding them are captivating objects with unusual aesthetics, a collection of eclectic ideas. What do transparent colored glass lamps, a bamboo armchair in vibrant hues, accessories shaped like dogs, lemons, pineapples, and a floral-patterned bag have in common? Much more than one might imagine. These are furnishings, furniture, and accessories designed with the specific goal of bringing happiness in a difficult and uncertain time, amidst geopolitical conflicts and environmental disasters. Common features include “warm” comfort, “joyful” creativity, and sincere sustainability. Among them stands out a small hippopotamus, Moo Deng, a rare pygmy hippopotamus that has become the symbol of joy and cultural vibrancy in Thailand. Completing the Thai pavilion is the FRONT 100 exhibition, featuring a selection of works from 100 emerging designers. www.creativethailand.net

HKIDA. EASTERN AND WESTERN CULTURES, TOGETHER
For the first time at the Superdesign Show, HKIDA, a non-governmental and non-profit association that has been working closely with designers, architects, students, and the public for over thirty years to preserve the tradition of local design combined with contemporary experiences, while respecting environmental needs, brings to Milan the exhibition titled Urban Reflection. Unique projects to see, a perfect combination of current design and Chinese craftsmanship details. All the pieces presented use recycled materials, recovered traditional elements, material transformations, and other eco-friendly solutions. For example, the squared metal chairs with upholstery that reuses typical fabrics from the area, or the armchair that combines bamboo with local fans, along with other furnishings with a more futuristic aesthetic and content. One of HKIDA’s main commitments is, in fact, to promote professionalism and excellence in design. This includes the complete development of well-crafted codes of conduct, innovation both creatively and technically, as well as celebrating craftsmanship. www.hkida.org

MATERIALLY. THE COMMITMENT OF THE RESEARCH
Materially’s space has always been the most visited by those curious about the extraordinary performance of seemingly simple materials that are the result of complex processes aimed at achieving the long-desired eco-compatibility. This year, various exhibiting companies showcase the commitment behind the research and development of innovative materials, with transformations far beyond imagination. They do this through the exhibition The Scale of Commitment, which presents transparent and, most importantly, measurable solutions, precisely transferring complex concepts and processes related to sustainability measurement. It helps clarify and dismantle misleading beliefs. In the installations, the materials can be touched to explore their aesthetic and functional characteristics, while immersive digital tools provide data and technical information. www.materially.eu
