The 58th edition of 'Wildlife Photographer of the Year' opens, the concluding moment of the competition organised by London's Natural History Museum. For the first time hosted in the Hangar 21 space at Superstudio Più, in Via Tortona. The exhibition open to the public from 29 September to 31 December 2003, with a hi-tech display, enhances the artistic value and content of the hundred images. Not to be missed for any reason.
Offered in more than thirty cities, the exhibition is the result of a selection process carried out by the London museum's scientific committee. as many as 10,000 unpublished images of animals in their natural environment are initially accepted and collected. A 'first choice' is the result of 1000 shots. The final choice leads to one hundred photographs for the exhibition, from which the winner will be chosen to be awarded the title of "Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2023". The 2022 edition promoted an American photographer, Karen Aigner, to the position of honour. The selection criterion is based on the quality, distinctiveness and impact potential of the image. But the genius of capturing every aspect of animal life is not overlooked: the location in the different natural environments of the globe, the inevitable struggle between the various species and for survival, love quarrels, hunting for food, themes that also determine the thematic subdivision of the exhibition. There is also a video room, where a monitor shows footage of the making of the winning photos, as well as interviews with the photographers and other content related to the exhibition.
An authentic celebration of wild nature - an expression of extraordinary talent, but also a passionate 'tale' of careful attention - captured by the lens, not just the human eye: capable of recounting and expressing with realism and unique moments of animal life, but also dreamlike moments full of beauty, enchantment and poetry, which captivate and involve everyone also because, nature belongs to everyone. And we should not forget that so frequently. If anything, we should live it much more, and, above all, with more respect, attention, love. Not only thanks to these images.
