Five iconic seats, a sustainable and controlled production process, an Italian cult brand. The synergy between these elements gives birth to Black is the new Green, the capsule collection by Driade that balances style and ecology, fantasy and simpleness.
Driade is the brand that since 1968 has marked the history of Italian and international design panorama throughout an “aesthetic lab” approach and a series of the collaborations with international design stars and inventiveness protagonists such as: Nanda Vigo, Enzo Mari, Alessandro Mendini, Philippe Starck, Tokujin Yoshioka...
Today, in a moment when expressing oneself through domestic furniture represents a comforting, expressive and creative activity, the eclecticism of Driade is concentrated in its new capsule collection Black is the new Green which consists of an iconic selection of the brand’s chairs and armchairs entirely made of recycled plastic: Nemo by Fabio Novembre, Roly Poly by Faye Toogood, Pip-e by Philippe Starck and Sissi by Ludovica+Roberto Palomba.
The black, neutral colour characterising the collection takes on the opposite meaning compared to its standard one. Here black becomes “green” as a vehicle of hope, vitality and regrowth.
"Black is the new Green, marks a turning point for Driade in the direction of a green and eco-sustainable approach, to improve our impact on the environment. The trend already started with the use of materials and solutions which do not negatively affect the environment as a demonstration that sustainability and sustainable development are not in antithesis, but they can, and must be, complementary processes. Sustainability is a global categorical imperative." declares the CEO of the company Giuseppe Di Nuccio.
These words can be read as a design statement and productive method which combine Italian style with the increasingly urgent theme of a world in which every new object must be the result of respectful and thoughtful choices, materials should be used sparingly, nothing can be disposable.
Thus, the material of Black is the New Green collection comes entirely from industrial recycling, controlled waste of the company’s internal production and post-consumer recycling. That is to say, for example, the PET bottles and containers that we, the consumers, collect separately becoming an active part of this virtuous circle.
