"The archives of Italian photographers" (which is also the title of this year's edition) are a heritage to be valued. Rete Fotografia aims to highlight a theme that is increasingly relevant and of great interest to both photographers and preservation organizations and institutions: the current situation of the archives, which is uncertain and complex, with few projects dedicated to their preservation and valorization. This scenario increasingly jeopardizes their accessibility.
The opportunity that this event offers is precisely to discover the many facets and myriad faces of Italy through the perspective of photographers: visual testimonies of the history of industry and labor, social changes, technical innovations, Italian history, publishing, art, politics, news, theater, fashion, design, urban transformations, architectural history, and landscape.
The opening conference at the Sforza Castle in Milan will serve as a forum for discussion among organizations and institutions dedicated to archive protection, including the Civic Photographic Archive of Milan, the Gabriele Basilico Archive, the Milan Triennale, the Pirelli Foundation, the Historical Archive of the Corriere della Sera Foundation, the Central Institute for Cataloging and Documentation (ICCD), the Central Institute for Graphics, and the MAXXI - National Museum of 21st Century Arts.
From October 14th to 22nd, the protagonists will be curators and heads of historical archives and foundations, both public and private, who will act as guides for visitors. Many professionals will present their work and open their studios to the public, including the possibility of online connections. Among others, the archives of Uliano Lucas, Maurizio Galimberti, Fabrizio Garghetti, Erminio Annunzi, as well as the Fotogramma agencies of Mimmo Carulli, Italfoto of Talenti and Terzani, and the Historical Archive Riccardi Agr Press have also participated.
