SCIENCE AND WELL-BEING FOR GREEN

Posted by: Donatella Bollani

The desire for outdoor life has become so perceptible that companies today move among design science and research to fulfil it at best. An interesting initiative by Pratic that every year, in collaboration with various Universities, studies people’s desires and market trends.

The human brain always favours outdoor structures or better, nothing like outside protection structures can balance the right hemisphere and the left hemisphere of the human brain. This is one of the interesting results of the new neuroscientific research “Design for Well-being” born from the long-time collaboration between Pratic and Dr. Stefano Calabrese’s staff at IULM University and University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.
“This is the third research we make in the last years with the same partners”, says Edi Orioli, vice president of Pratic, “After those on colours and natural light”. “We were interested in the colour” he continues, “As a couple of years ago we launched a new painting system Qualicoat Seaside that protects against the salt corrosion risk, with the application of high performance anti-aging paint provided by top international suppliers on the market. Regarding light, it is easily understood; our core business is to protect clients from direct light, from heat and the most bothersome sunlight rays”.

This last survey points out that a space is perceived as enjoyable depending on the impression of inclusion that is able to create, on the capability to welcome us inside them. In addition to the motor and perceptive potentiality of a space, which is the possibility that it allows us to move freely and to take in the surrounding habitat with the eyes.  A pergola that offers at the same time opening and protection in compliance with the so-called Habitat and Prospect-refuge Theory, asserting that the aesthetic pleasure ensuing from an environment comes from the fact that it is experienced as satisfactory and reassuring for the primary needs.
Once again, we are dealing with the visual range that allows survival, in terms of evolutionism, affording to see in the distance, to hide, to identify threats and if needed, decide either approach or avoidance maneuvers. “We all remember children’s games”, comments Edi Orioli “When we used to love to build shelters coverings with bed sheets, makeshift refuges and huts in the garden.  Places where we could take refuge and double domestic spaces, yet distancing ourselves”. This continuous research for a shelter, a protection from an early age is a need. An archaic necessity that finds complete correspondence also with products of the brand Fagagna, in the province of Udine.
