NATURE BECOMES SCULPTURE

Let's look at a historical furniture company, a young architect already in the running, the common love for strong, well-made, long-lasting and innovative things, a “sincere” sustainability as a common factor. Thus Giovanni Tomasini's sculpture-chairs are perfect interpreters of Riva 1920 updated to 2021.

In order to celebrate its hundredth anniversary, the historic Riva 1920 "carpentry", today a leading company in the production of solid wood furniture designed by great architects, has opened its doors to a young Lombard designer who aspired since high school to approach this reality whose mission has remained unchanged since then and which Riva family sums up in “produce honestly to hand down to future generations furniture able to challenge time while fully respecting the environment”...

In order to celebrate its hundredth anniversary, the historic Riva 1920 "carpentry", today a leading company in the production of solid wood furniture designed by great architects, has opened its doors to a young Lombard designer who aspired since high school to approach this reality whose mission has remained unchanged since then and which Riva family sums up in “produce honestly to hand down to future generations furniture able to challenge time while fully respecting the environment”.
Giovanni Tomasini, a creative man who made green philosophy his hallmark, immediately was comfortable among the company's scented woods, from which he drew sculptures to sit on: "Team up with Riva has always been my secret wish. At the beginning of 2020 the company offered me the opportunity to unleash my creativity. During the following months, five stools and a very fragrant cedar wood bench were created. When I found myself in front of these huge blocks, I felt like Michelangelo when he said: "just remove the superfluous, art work is already inside". I put so much emotion into this project, now I hope they can convey a touch of their magic ”.
These chairs, while recalling famous architectures in their names and volumes, at the same time evoke nature, dexterity, harmony, and thery're magical.
So today, alongside proposals by Mendini, Mari, Novembre, Rashid, Starck, Piano, De Lucchi and other masters, there is also  Tomasini collection, completely natural and hand-finished without adding any treatment. The Lebanese cedar is an evergreen conifer whose wood is characterized by an heady strongly balsamic scent, given off by the resin which also has a natural anti-moth power. An absolutely sustainable collection, because Riva 1920 uses only fallen and recovered cedar trees, following natural events or planned cuts, carried out for safety reasons. A collection also perfect for outdoors, moisture and water resistant; it does not deteriorate, on the contrary if exposed to atmospheric agents, it acquires a beautiful “taupe gray” color. Ready to last another hundred years.
